Tom Axelgaard – Chairman of the Supervisory Board Poldanor SA

Tom Axelgaard is a Danish farmer and shareholder in Poldanor S.A. He could be called the “father” of Poldanor and he admits that building up Poldanor will “always be the most important thing he did in his life”. After 15 years as the managing director of Poldanor, he took the position as the Chairman of The Supervisory Board in December 2008.He is a very visionary person, who is not afraid of changes and willingly takes on new challenges.
Tom Axelgaard was born and raised on a farm, and after high school he went to the USA for 1 year, where he worked on several farms. Back in Denmark again, he was employed as a manger of a veterinary clinic for almost two years, and after that he bought a cattle farm in the western part of Denmark. After years of experience in managing both a pig and a cattle farm in Denmark, together with a big agricultural project in Ukraine for some months, he decided to participate in the privatization of Polish previous state farms, by starting up agricultural business in Poland. Being the General Director of Polen Invest (a Danish investment company) he started to build up Poldanor, which soon became one of the biggest agricultural companies of its kind in the whole of Poland. For three years he also managed the slaughter and meat processing plant Prime Food, a sister company to Poldanor. He is also the owner of an impressive conference centre "Axelgaard Resort & Conference" located in Outrup (Denmark). In fact, this is his old pig farm, which he has now rebuilt completely for this purpose.
His leisure time he most enthusiastically spends very actively, usually cycling or swimming. In his younger days he practiced gymnastics, also on a high level, and was even the instructor of several local gymnastic teams in Denmark. He was also the courier for a Danish regional gymnastic club, touring the USA.
His wife Maren has constantly supported him in his activities for 30 years. They have two adult children: Holger (1982) and Anne (1986).
