New environmental regulations in Poland.

Before Poland’s accession to EU Polish environmental protection regulations were adjusted to comply with the Union’s legislation. Since May 1st, 2004, i.e. the date of Poland’s accession to EU, the European Union’s law has been applicable in Poland as well. Thus all Polish enterprises are obliged to adjust their activities to new regulations. Moreover, some sorts of productions, e.g. farm fattening of pigs, must meet the highest ecological demands and require obtaining the ecological concession, so-called “integrated permit”, IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control). The ecological policy of Poldanor is illustrated very well by the process of preparation followed by development of detailed applications for integrated permits for 11 swine farms located in north-western Poland.

The data and material preparation and collection stage started in the beginning of 2003 and lasted through mid-2004. During that time, not only parameters of animal production but also procedures of supervision, reporting and monitoring of influence on the environment were assessed for every of the eleven farms. The following was examined in details:

·         energy outlays (electric, thermal, fuels and combustibles)

·         water consumption

·         amount of wastes generated by the basic and auxiliary activities

·         emissions of gases and dusts into the atmosphere

·         amount of sewages and other liquid impurities produced

·         amount of liquid manure produced

·         generated noise level.

In 2004, documentations with applications for integrated permit for 11 farms were submitted to the Governors in Gdańsk and Szczecin. By the end of 2004 positive permits were issued for 4 farms: Pawłówko, Chomętowo, Miętno and Giżyno.

On November 9th, 2005, Poldanor received the last required integrated permit – for the Świelino farm, and thus the authorities acknowledged officially that the company runs its production processes properly, implements the latest technologies and prevents from environmental pollutions in an integrated manner.
