Ecological storage of
liquid manure.
Proper coverage of tanks with liquid manure reduces gas emission
into the atmosphere. In 2001, Poldanor started the implementation of a
program under which all tanks for storage of liquid manure should
covered, although the relevant regulation was enacted only in
2004 and came into force in 2005 in Poland (fertiliser
and fertilising act). Polish regulations on the
volume of liquid manure tanks (to come into effect in 2008) require
at least a 4 month period of liquid manure storage. For many years
Poldanor has introduced a standard according to which tanks provide
at least 9 month storage of liquid manure from a specific farm.

The cultivated fields are fertilised with organic fertilisers from
farms only 1 or 2 times a year. Poldanor always informs the local
society about its plans of fertilising with liquid manure and
accommodates itself to their wishes, if possible. The company made
it a rule never to use liquid manure in the summer
tourist season as well as weekends and holidays. It needs
emphasising that most farms owned by Poldanor are located far away
from the inhabited areas.

For spreading out liquid
manure Poldanor uses special spreading hoses, which
significantly reduce the onerous smells. In addition, in 2004
Poldanor established a cooperation on testing liquid manure odour
reduction with three companies to find the optimum solutions for
these problems.
Spreading of liquid
manure takes place in accordance to the applicable regulations and
fertilising schedules approved by the district chemical and
agricultural stations:
Coherent activities
including:
·
use of special spreading hoses
for spreding out liquid manure
·
pumping liquid manure through the
underground pipelines from tanks directly to the fields,
·
covering the liquid manure tanks
and application of hydro mixing in covered tanks,
·
obtaining biogas from liquid manure
by methane fermentation process (on June 9th, 2005,
Poldanor opened the first modern biogas plant in Poland in Pawłówko,
Przechlewo commune; The construction of other 6 biogas plants is
expected to be realised in 2006-2007).
Allow emission of
odours into the environment to be reduced.
