  • Poldanor to open sixth farm biogas plant
On 15 November 2010, the village of Świelino, West Pomerania, saw an inauguration of Poldanor's sixth farm biogas plant. The event was attended among others by Jan Krawczuk, West Pomerania Province Vicemarshal, Jarosław Rzepa, Agriculture and Environmental Protection Department, Szczecin Marshal Office, along with officials from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, Szczecin Department.

Poldanor S.A. is at the forefront of farm biogas plants on Polish soil. The newly launched Świelino-based plant is already company's sixth investment of this kind; by 2013 Poldanor will have as many as twelve biogas plants in operation. Currently, biogas plants are among most noticeable in the renewable energy sector. The one in Świelino, like existing plants in Pawłówko, Płaszczyca, Kujanki, Koczała and Nacław, will produce biogas, and, as a result, electricity and heat. The raw materials include first of all liquid manure, maize silage, and glycerin, supplemented with by-products from crop and feed production.
Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Kazimerz Plocke, wrote a letter to Poldanor on the occasion:

The action taken (…) testifies to the possibility to maintain a balance between agricultural production and environmental protection. The Ministry of Agriculture supports initiatives to develop renewable energy production, particularly based on agricultural raw materials. I am positive that the solutions applied by Poldanor in farm biogas plants will set an example for potential investors, and proves that even a small-scale farm biogas plant may provide farmers an extra income.

Poldanor's first biogas plant ever was built in Pawłówko in 2005, and then in Płaszczyca and Kujanki in 2008, Koczała in 2009, and most recently in Nacław in June 2010.

”Farm biogas plants are closely connected to our strategy,” says Poldanor's Chairman of Management Board, Grzegorz Brodziak. ”Poldanor has consciously pursued environmental protection strategies recognized nationwide and in Europe, especially those related to our field of activity, that is agriculture. They are applied by reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, launching projects to promote renewable energy and responsible management of natural fertilizers and waste products. Our long-term goal is to construct biogas plants beside most of our animal farms.”

Świelino farm biogas plant in brief:
    • raw material storage yard,
    • primary tank of 962 m3,
    • storage tank of 962 m3,
    • fermentation tank of 3,990 m3,
    • post-fermentation tank of 2,490 m3,
    • technical building,
    • pumping station,
    • biogas purification systems,
    • cooler,
    • transformer station,
    • power station of 625 kWe and 686 kWt,
    • gas boiler of 701 kW,
    • liquid manure tank.
    Yearly input totals:
    • liquid manure approx. 11,000 tons,
    • maize silage approx. 14,000 tons,
    • glycerine approx. 4 000 tons (optional).

    Annual output:
    • biogas approx. 2,500,000 m3,
    • electricity approx. 5,200,000 kWh,
    • heat approx. 5,700,000 kWh.

Poldanor's biogas plants produce green energy which in part is used by the company internally, while the remainder is sold to external energy consumers. Exceed heat from cooling plant generators is used to heat the pig farm, while the natural fertilizer after the process (enhanced properties) is applied on own fields.
